CIMT – Constraint-Induced Movement Therapy
"Constraint-Induced
Movement Therapy" und "Force-Use Therapy" are synonyms.
This form of therapy can be used to train a paretic (partially paralysed)
arm, to restore functioning and/or a specific function. To do this, the
unaffected arm is immobilised using a special glove, a hand splint or
something similar. This immobilisation can last for 90% of a patient’s
waking time. Six hours a day for two weeks is the minimum requirement.
During this time the paretic arm is intensively trained and, of necessity,
is used for everyday activities. Patients for whom this form of therapy
is considered have to fulfil very specific criteria and are therefore
carefully selected.

"Constraint-Induced
Movement Therapy" is very demanding for the patient and for
the therapist. The degree of rehabilitation success can be correspondingly
high in some patients.
If you would like to know more about this special form of therapy,
Constraint-Induced Movement Therapy, please contact the CIMT project
group at the following e-mail address: cimt@rheinburg.ch.
